Quick One - Plasterboard

Couple of really quick ones:

Can you tile direct onto new plasterboard.

If tiling onto plasterbaord do you need to seal the joints (scrim)

The plasterboard is nowhere near water

I take it sealing plasterboard joints is only for painting etc.
