[Why don't we just read what they say?

I see nothing that says a socket outlet/control switch/light fitting can be moved or it's cable replaced unless it is damaged

.....So I repeat - where does the term "like for like" appear in the Building Regulations?

Whilst enjoying my Sunday afternoon murder mystery novel a paragraph in it reminded me of this thread, sadly.

Approved Document P, page 8, additional note b states that:

Replacement, repair and maintenance jobs are generally not notifiable, even if carried out in a kitchen or special location or associated with a special installation

But in my thriller (Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations) page 22 additional note b states:

Replacement (like for like), repair and maintenance jobs are generally not notifiable, even if carried out in a kitchen or special location or associated with a special installation

Just thought I'd muddy the waters a bit

So if I replaced my shower for instance, that is not notifiable? What if I re-cabled it with thicker cable to make it safer? Hopefully I make sense.

If you just replaced it on the existing fixed wiring = not notifiable
If you replaced it and the fixed wiring = notifiable, as it's a new circuit
