quick release couplings

Hey guys
I have a clarke petrol jet washer and can`t release the "quick release couplings" it must have grit or something in the bo bearings, does anyone have any idea how I can get them off as they are currently stuck on :evil:
 
Like you say, its a combination of grit and probably rust thats preventing the collar from pushing back....so, plenty of patience and WD40, turning the coupling as you try to free it. These will be the PCL type, presumably.
