1.6mm is the limit for cars, so why it is less for bikes, which seem more at risk from dodgy tyres, is a mystery.
M/c tyres are skinnier and more rounded so don’t really build up a wall of water that can cause aquaplaning. Plus, you wouldn’t take a bend at the sort of speeds in the wet on a bike compared to a car. Well, I wouldn’t anyway!
 
When can you have less than 1mm of tread on some bikes and what are those requirements?
