Quote Confusion

If you want to know what the "official" requirement is, you need to read the Domestic Heating Compliance Guide (DHCG). CHeSS 2008 is only a guide to the DHCG and is concerned only with new systems. Changing the boiler is classified as a replacement system. There is NO requirement to fit TRVs when just the boiler is being replaced.

Regardless of the legalities, its both sensible and good practice to fit TRVs when a new boiler is fitted.

But the installer will not go to prison if you dont agree to have TRVs.

Very unfortunately there are some cowboys like plumber "2" who tell the customer that they dont need TRVs and expect to get the job because they are cheaper!

Many customers just want the cheapest job and are fooled by plumber "2".

The situation is not changed regardless of who you choose to believe or go with. You get what you pay for and its better to pay for TRVs as they will give the most economic operation, if used correctly.

Referring to page 15, table 2 of the above publication, it clearly states that trv's should be fitted and that a replacement boiler should be treated 'as new dwelling'.

Can't see where you are coming from

Perhaps if you read the domestic heating compliance quide then you will note that for replacement systems then you must use the same as for new systems with temperature control of space heating. Read table 2 page 15.

Just realised that you had looked at the quide too Dave.
