Craven apologies for not searching, but time is tight. Rads in boxes in the lounge, plumber due soon, SWMBO just reminded me that we didn't buy any valves

So recommendations please for good quality t'stat and ls valves, in white, reasonably widely available...

Honeywell? Danfoss? Pegler?

ano?

Honeywell VT200. Danfoss TRV4.
Some others are as good but uglier.
Peglers everything seems to be made of junk in China these days, unfortunately.
The lockshields are equally as important. Go to a Pl merchant not a shed - as if you would, and pay a few quid each. Makesure thatthe shaft has a nut you can do up to stop the seal leaking. Again, Peglers aren't what they were, their low end ones are awful.

Drayton TRV4s with Myson Matchmaster lockshields is my favourite.

No mate. Look in daily but mostly too busy and too tired to type!!!! (And 'er indoors alias 'The gestapo', reckons I need to buy a hooded coat).

My fave TRV's are Myson 2 way I had a bad experience with drayton trvs once cos the pipe doesnt go far enough into the fitting. The one time I needed that little margin for error I didn't have it resulting in a flooded bathroom

If valves are 'in boxes' you'll need remote sensors outside the boxes......

IMHO, radiator covers should be banned!

Or did you mean 'still in packaging, not yet fitted'...?

Shame on you for ever thinking it. When I was young and feckless I did once buy some TRVs in Wickes. 2 out of 5 would not close completely - presumably at least some of the other 3 wouldn't open completely either.

Anyway - I did go to a proper PM yesterday, but they were a bunch of bucking fastards. I'm replacing 3 traditional horizontal rads with 1 horizontal, 1 vertical panel and 1 vertical quarter-round. For the 2 verticals the pipes are being rerouted. I couldn't be sure whether I'd end up needing straight or angled valves, so what I wanted to do was to buy both and return the unused ones a few days later.

15% "restocking fee".

I don't think so.

Can cheap valves cause lots of radiator noises - is it "hammer"/tapping noises etc. ?
