Yes they are crap at giving out heat I agree with you on that!

Anyhow good news all rads are now balanced and hot. I have no idea how, either there was some blockage (I didn't see anything) or the squirtiness through the boiler meant air was previously staying in the pipes somehow and not coming to a rad top, and affecting the balance. It's a mystery!

Sometimes all it take is for things to stabilise, as you say - a little restriction in a pipe to move - or a sticky valve tweaked and things start to settle out.

One thing I did wonder is if overdoing it with flux and solder how much can go inside and start restricting the flow. It seems unlikely but there are times when you go overboard unsure if the solder has flowed etc.
