Hi there, I'm a student living in a rented property with 2 other girls, the problem is the radiator in my room isn't getting as hot as the other radiators and obviously all over the country right now it's freezing!

The other radiators in the property are getting much hotter even if they are not on full blast like mine is, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Get on to the Landlord, its his responsibility. No easy fix if you cant describe what valves are on radiator?,try turning other rads off for 10mins and see if yours gets any hotter

Firstly borrow some pliers and pull off the plastic cover on the valve at the other end of the rad from the control valve. Check that the little brass spindle with flat sides is fully unscrewed anti-clockwise.

If that isn't the problem, nip to a DIY store or plumber's merchant and buy a radiator bleed key. Keep this with you for the rest of your life along with your Swiss Army knife and your girls' emergency stuff. Find the bleed nipple at one end of the radiator and open it (anticlockwise again - might be quite tight) and listen if any air comes hissing out. If air comes out, that's the problem solved. The rad shold be nice and warm.
