Radiator Pipes / new style rads?

Afternoon,

Currently all our radiators are supplied with old style gray plastic 15mm pipe until where they come up from the floor is copper.

I am wanting to at least replace the valves and use chrome pipe (not radsnaps, i don't really rate them) in place of the copper.

Could any one advise me what the best fitting would be to connect the plastic pipe to a new chrome pipe? I have heard mixed reviews on connecting pushfit JG stuff on chrome so i'm a little unsure.

Also, the radiators are probably 15years old at least. I've used calculators and most sites say that if i was to buy a new radiator to replace the old one it is much smaller than the current ones. Is this because of the design or something that they give more heat output ?

Compression fittings are ok, using the correct insert on the plastic pipe.

I would use compression. But if you have to use speed fit you need to take the chrome off the pipe for the insertion depth of the fitting. About 25mm for 15mm if memory serves.
