Radiator Questions (Position And Valves)

Hi all,

I have a couple of (hopefully) quick questions.

1. Does the position of the radiator make much difference? I was planning on putting it behind the sofa, but wondered if a smaller exposed radiator would be better than a larger one behind?

2. Secondly, the variety of valves is really confusing me. Wickes do some valves for £7.49, then some upto £25. Is it just a case that the expensive ones have marked temp settings, and the cheaper ones you just guess?

The position is up to you really, traditionally they were positioned underneath windows but with double glazing now it's not as important just make sure the radiator gives off the correct heat output for the room. As for the valves you will find that the cheaper ones usually are not bi-directional.
