Hi, newbie here so please excuse my silly questions

I have one radiator, repositioned last year, which has been making a rat-a-tat noise ever since, just like someone drumming fingers on a table. It appears to be linked to the thermostatic radiator valve, as I can temporarily stop the noise by turning the TRV or putting slight pressure on the valve. After searching on here I believe the valve may be on the wrong end of the radiator.

My question is, do you think it is the valve, and how do I swap it to the other side of the radiator, does this involve draining all the radiators to work on the valve. I have drained single radiators before to decorate but never the whole system, is it simple??

Thanks in anticipation :D

What Make is it. I know te Danfoss is nominally Bi directional but does suffer from valve rattle. Theres a collar underneath thermostatic head which can be rotated to facilitate better operation. Otherwise i'd speak to your installer about swapping valve onto flow pipe into rad.

It is a Honeywell, and quite old, around 15 years, but it worked so I didn't see the point in replacing it. All the other valves are on the 'in' end of the radiators, and no noise.

I take it I have to drain the whole system to change the TRV over then?

You can just knock the charge pressure off and try to do it live but I wouldn't recommend it, so yep drain down it is. I'd try just replacing the head though first. Maybe one of one of the valves that isn't making noise?
