Hi,

I've removed this radiator for plastering, I couldn't believe the weight of the thing.

Anyway, do you think it is worth me replacing with a newer style of rad or are these just as good as the newer ones and I wouldn't notice any difference?

Also the width is 1150mm which seems an odd size.

Appreciate your advice.

Is it full of rust? Flush it with a hose.

Consider replacing it if it looks too awful. I doubt a new one would be significantly more efficient.

Right, it could be an old imperial size. You would need to replace it with a slightly smaller one, i.e. 1100mm, and then either adjust the pipework or fit radiator tail extensions. Personally I’ve had bad experiences with tail extensions leaking, and would avoid them.

Yeah, I'll flush it out, I jist wasn't sure if new ones were more efficient. This one held close to 12L of water which I thought was quite a lot.

Also if I replaced it with one of those traditional column type rads, as it is an old house and I think that would suit the room more, would it cost much for a plumber to fit it?

The other thing to consider is the thickness of the steel. Many old ones are rather substantial, so weigh a ton. And many newer ones, are only slightly thicker than cooking foil, hence weigh nothing. I would say if it works, then keep it. You also don't want to be faffing with potential imperial to metric pipework alterations unless you have to.
