Radiator Thermostat Problem

Hey guys, I am having a problem with my thermostat on my radiator, i turned it down to 0 and now its stuck and cannot turn it back up, I was wondering how I can fix this. Ive been looking around and it seems i can remove the thermostat and then hammer a pin lightly to fix it but id like a second opinion. Would i need to drain the system to do so?

Hey Pantiome!

If you can't turn it, its not the pin stopping it. You could try some WD40 in the plastic head where it turns, or unscrew the chrome ring below the head. You can then remove the head and see if you can free off the moving parts.

Anyhow, that is a cheap and nasty TRV, and will let you down again and again. Fit one of these, they're only a tenner

And, does it look like yours has been leaking where the pipe joins?

yeah it is slightly at the joint, is damp around the area. Will try the wd40 and taking the head off and see how it works, will get back to you about that later tonight, thanks

Try tightening the brass coloured nut a bit to stop it weeping (not the chrome one) thats on the copper pipe.

If that doesn't work, best to remove that dodgy TRV, and replace it. Whilst doing that, you can re-make the leaking joint.

It can be done without by inducing a vacuum in the system. That depends a lot on your system though.

As a DIYer though, probably best to drain to be on the safe side.
