Radiators getting warm with only HW on

No there's no bump on the top
Sorry-but why do you say no olives to saw off?

In that case you have to drain down to change the actuator so best to change the whole valve complete.

Do not try and remove the head, or you'll get wet.

Today, with everything cold, I put just the CH on, & both sides of the Y valve warmes up- so I guess this confirms the valve has had it.
Thanks everyone for replies

Take the actuator off and try it, you can turn the shaft by hand to the off position.

Just realised that with HW only, the rads nearest he pump & valve are warm, but not the whole house.
But with CH on all house rads were getting warm, so valve must be doing something.

When you say check the actuator do I just remove the metal cover to get at this?

Yes there's a screw on the end to take the cocer off.

Should be two screws holding it to the body.

Make sure the sparky stuff is turned off.
