Hi all.
A friend of mine has a flat in a a three storey building. She has a back boiler. She needs to change the radiator valves. Would you know from where to isolate the cold feed so that i can replace the valves? I know how to do that in a house ( isolate cold feed from F&E tank in the loft), but i have never done it in a building. Is there anything i should be aware of when doing that? Thank u very much.

It doesn't matter what property type (only that you can cause more water damage from leaks in a flat).

The F & E tank will be somewhere (sometimes in someone elses roofspace!). Either locate the stopcock or tie up the float arm.

Isolate and drain the system down if your a novice. You will probably need to bale and clean out the tank since it will be full of sludge and muck.

Be aware of possible problems such as blocked feed pipework etc.

Only fit top quality TRV's and lockshield valves (most of the sheds/mailorder sell rubbish) and refill with a quality inhibitor.

Sometimes these charity jobs can turn out to be a nightmare so plan for the worst case and you will still remain friends. :)
