Hi all,

I am planning to build a raised bed with sleepers that backs on to my fence similar to that shown in the photo below which I found on the internet (maybe 2 layers high though). In my case the soil would cover more of the timber gravel boards (maybe even some of the fence panel) so I am not sure how best to protect it from rotting?

Unlike in the photo below would I need to run sleepers in front of the fence too?

The problem is my ground slopes up at the fence so I would struggle to get the sleepers to be level with the lawn side sleepers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here is a photo from my garden. I want to get rid of that current box and replace with a raised bed the whole length of the fence using sleepers. The width of of the bed will probably be similar to the box shown in the photo. I would like the top of the raised bed to be level with roughly the top of the gravel board. However this means the gravel board will be in contact with the soil so should I put anything something between the gravel board and soil to prevent rotting?

Thanks.

Thank you.

I'd try and source some waterproof tarp/plastic sheet?

Vertically stapled along the length of the fence, and Stanley knife cut to a desired height, ideally slightly over the fill level of the bed.

Where joints would inevitably be made, simply over lap generously, and stapling tight to stop rain penetration.

Ascetics wise, to get a neat line in your tarp, you could try and fix a long 1x4" lengthways on the fence base, to staple the tarp onto, and the cut a neat line along the top.

Thanks very much Crystalclear. I'll look at getting some waterproof sheet as suggested.

I am also now wondering if there will be too much load on the fence from the raised bed? Or do you think it should be ok?
