The central heating on my Range Powermax 140 bolier no longer works.

Having read the manual, I believe this could be due to three things:

1) The CH pump,
2) The cold start stat,
3) The room stat.

I've checked and there is no power getting to the pump, so I don't think the pump is a problem. Also, the spindal is free to move.

I've bridged the cold start stat and that doesn't solve it.

Also, I've bridged the room stat and that doesn't solve it.

On turning the room stat, we no longer hear the clicking sound of the relay. I bought a replacement and this hasn't fixed it. On checking the connections on the room stat, it doesn't appear that it is getting power from the boiler.

Does anyone know what the problem could be???

Alternatively, if anyone can recommend a plumber in the Bristol / Stoke Gifford area and approxiamte costs, this would be appreciated.

Regards,

Chris

Stick to calling out manufacturers on these. They are more specialised.

Older ones were known for pcb faults.

I've tried bridging the room stat by connecting terminals 27 and 28 at the boiler itself and that hasn't worked it so I suspect that it is the programmer that has failed.

Hopefully they are not too expensive.

Do you have 240v at the heating on connection on the programmer when heating is turned on. :?:

Poxi - do you know where to test for 240v at the heater?

I couldn't work it out in the manual. Presumably if this is dead then I will need to buy a new programmer.

Thankful for the recent warm weather!

The wiring diagram is on the inner panel of the boiler. Start at the programeer (heating on terminal) with the heating turned on at the front of the clock. You can follow the 240v from there if have any :?:

the programmers are rubbish on these do the red lights look dimmer than normal ?

Sorry to hijack the thread... but I have the same problem and I am interested in the above quote as my two lights are dim. What does this mean then? Thanks!

What does this mean :?:

Good question,it means you change the programmer but nobody knows why

Just for the record you were right. The Powermax engineer came out and simply (and expensively) replaced the timer unit. Works fien now except for a loud 'bang' when starting up in the morning.... one thing after another at the minute....

It's your time clock not giving a supply to the room stat in turn not activating the htg pump. Tried to purchase the internal (Horstman Controls time clock) but they are now out of manufacture, how apropriate????????? they were obviously CRAP, any manufactures combined htg/hot wtr clock will do the same operation, but recommend it be installed by a Qualified Electrician as adaptions are required. Very poor after sales service with parts.
