Hi All

Have been reading as a "guest" on the forum regarding this boiler and thought it would make sense to join and ask for some help.

Our boiler as of last night no longer lets the central heating come on. The hot water fires up as normal and we have plenty of piping hot water but no CH. The CH light is on and as we have set the timer we tried pressing "advance" but nothing

I did notice last night when I got home that the stat now clicks "on" at 15 when until yesterday it was always at 20. Is it a faulty stat or perhaps as we are in a hard water area a faulty Grunfoss pump?

I'd say boiler is around 7 years old (we didnt buy from new it was already in the house when we moved in last year and house is around 7 years old)

If neither of these anything else we can try ourselves at home?

Any advice or help much appreciated

Thanks

cheers Kev-we'll try this

Have been reading that in hard water areas we are supposed to use a chemical descaler so might look into this also as the flow rate of the hot water has tailed off

There's a fault finding chart in the manual, follow that.

Check the CH pump is running. Unscrew the plug in the centre of the pump and make sure it spins when it should be on. A little water comes out, have an old towel handy. There may be 2 pumps, depending on which model it is.

If it isn't going, there is a manual-reset overheat thermostat. It is reset by pushing a button on the internal control panel, but it isn't obvious that it is a button. Check the manual, power off to do that. There's also a cold start thermostat that hold off the CH until the boiler is at 65 degC.

The integral timer (if it has one) is also a weak link, but you're getting into fault finding with a multi-meter to diagnose that.

thanks onetap

I know that we have 2 Grunfoss pumps so does that mean we would need to do both with the screw check?

Not sure if we have the manual for it-i'll have to hunt round at home

If the screws are checked and working fine we will try the manual override as suggested. Is there anything with the cold start thermostat that we can do? I had noticed yesterday that insted of the "click" at 20c it now clicks at 15c (on the wall mounted stat)

And if that doesn't work I guess we are gettin into calling out a professional to take a look?

The manual overide and your roomstat are not connected so don't worry about your stat.

If the simple obvious checks produce no result call out an expert.....someone used to dealing with these boilers as they are not as straight forward as some......fixed price repair maybe your best bet.....BG, Heateam etc.

The coldstart stat just prevents the diverter from switching over to heating until your store is 60' plus......

Great news! We now have central heating-seems to have been the pumps

Thanks all for your advice-EXCELLENT!
