Rapid increase in pressure during central heating

Hi, I have a Vaillant ecoTEC boiler. Over the last couple of years, I've noticed that the difference in pressure between when the heating is off, and when it's on, had been slightly increasing but it was all within normal limits.

This month that difference has massively increased. Today it went from 0.7 to 2.6 (at which point I turned it off) in under 10 minutes.

Before I turned it on I had to add water to increase the pressure from 0.5.

Any ideas on what would cause this, and how to fix it, would be much appreciated?

Thanks in advance.

You've either got steam (low odds) or the expansion vessel has lost pressure. Fixing it may well be a gas safe job (if it is inside the boiler), have a look in the user manual & see what it has to say

Thanks. I was expecting I'd need to get someone in but it's helpful to know what they'd likely need to fix and how bigger job it is etc.

If it is the EV that has lost pressure then it is a simple job (with a car footpump) to pump it back up to the correct pressure (you'd need to bleed some water out to get system pressure down to zero first). Problem is if access to the Schrader valve is inside the room sealed casing.

General question about this, is a check of the EV pressure something that should be included as part of a regular boiler service?

Proper service yes, poke and go or safety check no.

@TheFunk, yes you need a gas safe registered engineer to access a room sealed appliance where the case front is part of the combustion circuit - which yours is.
