RCD as sole protection for shower unit

A colleague rang me today to ask whether an RCD on its own was considered satisfactory protection for an electric shower.

I can't find the regs number..... :cry:
 
I hope there was some form of overcurrent provided to the circuit :shock:

As I'm sure you're aware an RCD will not operate on overload or a staight L-N fault.

431-01-01 Except where the overcurrent is limited [by the nature of the supply] every live conductor shall be protected by one or more devices for automatic interruption of the supply in the event of overload current [and] fault current...
