When making alterations to a bathroom lighting circuit that is fed from a rewirable fuse, is it acceptable to put an rcd fcu in the loft with the bathroom circuit off this. just wondering on the implications of having an rcd in the loft and accessibility wise if it ever tripped?

It's not a good idea.
How about installing your RCD FCU by your consumer unit, fed from your existing rewirable fuse. You could then have RCD protection for the whole lighting circuit and an accessible fuse should it require replacement.
Otherwise, I would just install at high level outside of the bathroom.
