I have been asked to install a split load consumer unit, but some how the tails from the isolator to the RCD are missing. Does anyone know what size cable is required to replace these????
Cheers :?

Are you competant to be carrying out this work ?

Cheers, that kit looks like the job.

I have already got some 10 mm single core blue and brown, will that do the job???

all i came on here for was some advise, not to have my competence questioned or sarcastic remarks!!!
Some of you need to get a hobby or something and stop sitting infront of your computer looking for people to abuse.

What size rcd units ?

Once you have that detail then you need to work out a suitable size for the cables v loading on the rcd unit.

I would suggest 16mm is more suitable than 10mm, fine strand being more normal that thicker strand.

If its' a split board which should have 2 x rcds (mostly) then you must have the other leads for 2nd rcd and can measure from those ?

i get the impression its a split load 16th... could be wrong though of course :wink:

Those links are normally tri-rated, so 16.0mm² meter tails might not be big enough, never mind 10.0mm²

Fine stranded wire needs to be fitted with a crimped-on spade or ferrule to ensure the terminal clamps tightly and permanently onto the wire.

To put it simply, if you are an electrician you really ought to know. If you are not, then you should not be doing it.

Either way, do really truly think that experienced people should sit by and NOT try to point out that you may be contravening either pure common sense safety and/or regulations put in place to help prevent dangerous practices?

thats interesting because assuming the tails are 25mm one would assume that halve the conductor size would be adequate for halve the load.

( i know what assume makes though...)

funny ole game :D

Assume, indeed.

I just took a quick peek at nominal 6491X conductor ratings:

2.5mm² = 24amp
10mm² = 55amp

If it were a linear relationship then 10mm would be 4 x 24 (96amp) but it isn't.
