RCD tripping - bit different this one

Thanks again for the advice given by 'almost all' on here :-)

Thought you might like to know I've sorted it... Pretty much pulled almost every floor board up tracking the cables. Breaking the ring at every socket I came (come!) to.
Found a random socket on the floor below that had been connected to the ring upstairs; under the floor upstairs, 2 x grey T&E disappear in the wall, and the socket immediately downstairs is fed with a single white T&E!!

The rogue resistance reading localised to just this run of cable. I can only surmise that someone has joined the two grey to a single white cable in the wall itself, and that somehow moisture or something has got to it. Very odd.

I have cut out the loop of cable to the downstairs socket for now and got the ring back on upstairs - will just loose that one socket for the time being.

Ant.

Could it go through a wall to an external socket, quite a few of these odd tripping problems turn out to be water/ rain related

There has to be something very wrong if you cannot see that what you have written is attacking Ant, accusing him of using poor English.

There has to be something very wrong if you feel the need to criticise people, let alone as often as you do.

After all, people do not normally exhibit these levels of confrontation and criticism.

It naturally leads to the question, "Why?"

I said what I wanted to to Ant, and we had a reply back & forth. I can't see that there's much more to be said there.

And it's clearly pointless carrying on a discussion with other people who just don't get it, who just don't care about standards - I'll not be replying.

Clearly you need to up your standards in relation to your attitude to your fellow man and take a long hard look at some of your recent posts on this site. And deal with whatever anger issues you have.

I will be ignoring your posts and if others do likewise you may get the message.

YOU are the one who just doesn't get it. You don't get that your criticisms are excessive and OTT.

You need to chill if you think you can take on the world when trying to improve standards: you cannot and never will be able to, even with the best will in the world. And contrary to your belief, you won't get any thanks for trying. You will just end up more and more frustrated and stressed out.

If you think any different, I would do yourself a favour and seek counselling to free yourself of your self-imposed burden. It will be a weight off your shoulders.

Thanks for the update - as you say, it's rather odd, but you appear to have localised the source of the problem and at least temporarily removed it from circuit. How low are the measured IRs (L-N, L-E and N-E) of the bit of cable you have now removed from the circuit?

Kind Regards, John
