RCD trips but not the mcb

Well, he should be completing a Minor Works Certificate.
sups - Did you supply the external RCD socket or the sparky? If the latter you may want to ask him why he has made you spend more money than you needed to (RCD sockets are more expensive than non-RCD ones), as already mentioned you didn'tneed the RCD socket at all, offer to pay him the balance minor the additional cost of the RCD socket.
