Re-attaching a boiler to the wall....(not currently secure)

Hi All,

We've been told our boiler isn't safe and it's not properly attached to the wall. The plumber we had in said you need specialist parts to re-attach the boiler securely, and these must be specific to that boiler.

He also said that the parts for our boiler (a Jaguar 28kw) aren't available, so we need to replace the boiler (it cannot be re-attached!)

Is this the case? Can you not re-attach the boiler using generic wall brackets? Or do you need parts specific to that make/model of boiler?

Help! I don't want to pay for a new boiler!

as far as I'm aware this boiler just hangs on 2 screws, bit crude but thats as per MIs. Parts are available aswell, so think you are being told porky pies
Why is it unsafe? how is it attached now?

I'm really not sure how it's attached. It has two wooden planks behind it, so it seems like the nails/screws are attached to those planks, rather than the wall directly. It certainly isn't the most attractive installation ever, and the engineer that came said it isn't properly secured so needs re-attached.

Fair enough. However, what I don't understand is how he can't use generic fixings to re-attach it. There must be a number of ways to attach a boiler to a wall. Our wall is brick with plaster on top of that.

He says he needs a specific part to re-attach it, and that part is unavailable for that boiler (jaguar 28kw). Therefore we need to replace the boiler!?!

did he say it was unsafe? if it was unsafe he should off issued you a warning/advice notice saying if it was at risk or immediately dangerous and isolated from the gas supply.. matt alright bbc rogue traders

Get a second opinion but dont tell them what the other plumber said. I think these have a hanging bracket and the boiler hangs off this, if its loose its obviously at risk or immediatley dangerous, you need to get it looked at asap. It might just need taking off and refastening.

Hi just had a look at the boiler fixing instuction from the installation manual and it states ___________________

!BOIlER INSTAllATION
to install the boiler, proceed as follows~
. Allowing sufficient clearances for servicing/repair, place the template on the wall
(see diagram 7).
.Note: The boiler can be installed only on the closed wall. Determine the position of the flue hole and drill hole for flue, preferably using
a 120 mm core drill.
.. Drill two 10 mm holes for the wallplugs supplied. Screw fixing screws supplied into wallplugs, leave proud by approx. 10 mm.
Note: Boiler fixing holes are keyhole type slots at the top of the boiler to allow easy
hanging of boiler.

A hanging bracket is optional can be used, Two screws suffient to hold the bracket

could well be that bracket is not secure, have seen plenty boilers hanging on 2, 8mm plugs.
it may be true, it may be bull, but you have to make sure.
