I have an chimney in an old terrace in the front room.

110 years old , seems to have been sealed many many years ago.
There is one of those ugly 80's gas fires covering it.
The mantle piece has been removed.

Apart from all the dust what else do I have to think about?

Wood I have to get the chimney re-lined?
One of those metal tubes?

How much of all this could I do myself?

How much do you estimate it would cost, apart from getting the wood burner and mantle piece?

Cheers

WOODBURNERS need chimney liners, dont think coal fire do .buy a smoke bomb from hard ware shop they are safe. this will help tell if you have a good draft and you can see if it come out of your chimney pot,get itin a sweep to clean it

I didn't know that wood burners need a liner. I burn lots of logs on my open fire. And, my mate has an open coal fire with a liner, it was fitted because the stack was in a state of disrepair and that was considered to be the best repair option.
HTH.
