Re-preserving a shed

The Shed is starting to look a bit faded these days, its five years old, and im looking to give it a coat of preserver such as ronseal shed preserver, However one quick question for you learned chaps, Do i need to rub the shed down before application or should i just go ahead and brush the stuff on..........

I never bother, I just leather it on. But do what it says on the tin.

Will take better to rough timber but with slightly less coverage. Just slap it on.
