Re tiling can i use MDF??????

I want to re tile my bathroom and i have tiles up to a certain point but i want to take the tiles up further. So i dont have a lip where the tiles meet the re tiled area could i nail mdf to the wall, seal it and tile on top of that? It makes sense to me but i am a complete novice with a capital nov!!
