I think you're being conned. You're installing over 250 separate wiring points that's roughly £40 per point, inclusive of cable, accessory cost and your labour.

Not sure about being conned but I reckon the electrical firm have gone in low on purpose and make their money on the extras. I know the plumbing for the place is gonna hit around £50k.

The builder is a good guy, I do plenty of work with him but I am more than happy to walk away from this one. Luckily I have work coming out of my ears so its no bother for me. I roughly worked out the best I could do was £12,700. I know the client too, and there will be loads of extras and alterations. I would rather give them an accurate figure first off!

It's not good business to hope for extras and alterations. Your base price is what you have to get right and show a healthy profit.

I couldn't agree more! That's what I have always done. I'm not about to change that now!

What the other guy is charging, is completely immaterial. You've worked out your price, and as long as you're happy to do it for that, then that's the best price to go in for. If the builder wants you to do the work because he trusts how you do things, then he'll pay the extra 2K, and if he want to save the money, then tell him thanks for letting you quote for the job, but you'll have to pass this time.

I suspect he's cut the price down to the bone to see if he can be competitive to the other guys.

89 lights inside the house, and electric UFH.

Are you sure that you want a job which has clearly been specced by a madman?

Nah - can't find a lorry big enough for my collection of pendants and fluorescent strips.

I like to think I am competitive price wise. Especially as I am down here south coast. Bas......I get the impression you are not a fan of downlights?? .
Trust me, I'd rather be putting a centre light in each room!

It sounds like the figure is a low one.

Why, I'm not sure.

I would go in at £15K without extras.

Do any parts of the building fall under Part M?
