recessed flourecent/cold cathode??

I have a boarded loft, which I use for my PC etc.

at the moment it is lit by my desk lamp (fair enough) and a single flourescent attached to the beam at one side.

there is not enough headroom to attach this overhead, and a matching one on the other side would be overkill.

the ceiling (ie innerside of the roof) has been insulated/lined etc.

I was wondering if there was any type of fitting to put in a small recess in this boarding to give a nicer, but still even light to the loft, it would ideally run downwards from the apex, or possibly sit either side of the topmost (ie ridge) beam (there is a couple of inch there)

for its positioning it would need to be coldrunning (if a ballast required this could be sited appropriatly elswhere in the room) and preferably resistant to knocks (its a small space)

ideas??

oh, and I have tried google, but only seem to get stuff suitable for suspended ceilings, so probably searching the wrong term.

white ropelights along both sides of the beam?

LED striplights such as under kitchen cabinets ( though these would be expensive option.. )?

hmm, never thought of the rope light, might give it a try with some tat ones I already have, if its any good, I can make some up get some the proper length

how low profile do you want?

here's led lights on a tape.. can't be more than a few mm thick and is flexi and self adhesive..

ok so it's an australian site but there must be suppliers over here somewhere or something similar?
