I have a very old Potterton Kingfisher floor standing boiler that I need to get replaced.

Currently I have a gravity hot water system with a hot water tank in a large cupboard upstairs, I don't havd a loft as the house has a flat roof. The bathroom is also upstairsand has very low hot water pressure and I can't have a shower in the bathroom.

Ideally I would like the new system to allow a shower and if I could reclaim the cupbiard where the hot water tank currently resides that would also be a big bonus as I dont have much storage space.

I would like to know what the forum thinks would be the best solution, I don't plan on doing this myself but I want to be better educated when I get some quotes.

Sounds like a combi might suit you here: no cylinder/more space, good pressure shower.
Provided that your mains flow and pressure are high enough.
Downside is that combis aren't great for supplying more than one demand for hot water at a time.

I had thought a combi would be ideal but I know a lot of people don't like them.

I was hoping for a few recommendations on brands models etc.

if you go for combi your CH will not work when you take shower... is or DHW or CH but never both of them at the same time.

This seem to be only a problem when you have multiple people taking shower one after another or people taking long showers - your radiators will become cold then!

Re brand - people complain about Ideal boilers, but Isar models are past and now your can get a really decent and compact Logic+ with up to 7 years guarantee. The model (Logic+) is an outcome of many iterations of design and experience, and learning from past issues (Isar)

Well a quick update we have just had the boiler replaced with a Worcester Bosch Greenstar Si combi boilers. We also replaced all the rads.

System seems to be working very well and we now have a shower for the first time as we have some decent water pressure. We also now have a nice big cupboard where the old header tanks and hot water cylinders were.
