There is a fair chance that if you look inside the casing you will find there are a pair of phono sockets inside that your cut-off wire plug into.

Yes you can get a cable with phono at one end and DIN at the other.

the black cable does come from the record deck. i'm thinking it's some sort of interence related feature. i vaguley remember something like this when i bought the deck years back.
