hi again,

i need to rewire a record deck with two standard phono sockets. that is straightforward as i have a red and a white cable, both with a centre core and a copper braid.

however, in addition to these red and white cables, there is a third. this one is much thinner single core cable with a black sheath.

could someone tell me what i need to do with this?

cheers

Possibly this is a chassis to chassis "earth" connection. Sometimes used to connect via an eyelet screwed to a chassis or "earth" connection next to the phono sockets.
