Reform lead the polls

There is always the option of going back. Given time, there is no doubt that's what will happen. Trump's nonsense will hopefully make Europe a more cohesive community, with defence at the forefront.
We don’t need to be in the EU to form a defence alliance with Europe.

It might need reorganising with people like Orban vetoing every measure that defends against Putin.

That sounds interesting but I can't get my head round it. Can you give some examples of how that might work in practice?
Trump doesn't like the EU model. On the one hand its just a trade cooperation on the other its a union like every other. Protectionism, collective bargaining, politics etc.
Depending on how Starmer plays his hand. The UK could be deal maker or piggy in the middle. As deal maker, both the US and EU offer the UK incentives for alignment to influence the other, as piggy we get beaten up by both.

I suspect we will be Piggy. It's a really dangerous time to be piggy, Vlad will likely increase his focus on attacking the UK.

The problem the EU has, is it's really only France, Italy and Germany that have any military power and may be 1 or 2 others. The other 20 or so are irrelevant noise, but each has a vote and influence.

Yes. I don't think it was taken seriously enough but with Trump questioning the security NATO provides, we need to up our game.

Who can blame him. when we all dine at the table, but have empty pockets when the bill arrives.

I think the deal maker scenario is wishful thinking whoever is in power. We are definitely piggy. If this continues post-Trump, we will probably be forced to re-join as we are tossed around at will by much more powerful entities.

The USA has also benefitted enormously from the arrangements of the past eighty years. They didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Trump could well be making a huge strategic mistake.

All jokes aside, can Italy really be trusted? I don't want an EU army. I want a much more integrated UK, German and French based arrangement.

Even Theresa May had a better relationship with Trump.

Starmer just doesn't seem to have the ability to negotiate. On a DISC profile https://www.discprofile.com/ I'd have him as dominant C and secondary S

Trump is a High D, with secondary I.

then you try to fix NATO.

To fix NATO you first have to convince people that you are seriously interested in it

Right now, NATO looks fragile

How’s your Russian?
Mine is poor. I speak a bit of a few European languages, but none that will matter.

Russian is not too far away from becoming a compulsory language in schools if we dont open our eyes and stand up.

It does look like Europe is standing up though.

Whether it's strong enough is another question, but we need to be, for at least the next 4 years.

I hope all those Trump supporters appreciate what his isolationist policies are doing.
