Refurbishing veneered doors

We have recently moved to a bungalow where all of the doors, including fitted-wardrobes and cupboards, are what could best be described, as being a wood veneer.
This is fine, although faded and a little 'dried' out at the edges.
These fit in well with the decor of the property and I would rather refresh / refurbish rather than replace.
The inside of the cupbard doors are close to a modern 'distressed oak' colour, whilst the faded fronts are many shades lighter.
Would you suggest waxing or oiling. I don't want to restain unless absolutely essential.
