As a matter of interest has anyone every refused to do a job because there is so much junk in the attic?

No. But you make it clear in your quote/estimate that they will clear the loft for you, or you will do it (at a price, of course).

I deliberatly price myself out of a job if people have too much clutter to cope with. It did come back to haunt me once and I suspect the customer had got quotes from as many conractors as possible, I was the unlucky one who got the job. With hindsight it turned out to be 1 of the most profitable jobs I ever did. The moral to all people who want work doing is keep your place tidy and accessible and you will get a better deal

Yes, a punter called me and I went to look at the job. They wanted downlights put in an upstairs (new baby's) bedroom.
The loft was stuffed and it was a big loft.

I called and said I wasnt going to quote as it was impossible to move in the loft.

The second reason was the house had light beige carpet thru most of the house and she made me take my shoes off coming in the door - it made going up the ladder to the loft very uncomfortable.

Last straw was she wanted it done by next Tuesday because the carpet people were coming to do the baby's bedroom again in light beige.

Heaven knows what it will look like when the kid gets to 4 years old and brings its mates in from the garden

Only when the owner was also a Nigerian landlord.

Blue plastic overshoes, I always use them.
It doesn't cost much to respect peoples homes.

Yes, I was doing an intricate backwards crab manoeuvre when I encountered the sharp point of an arial in my ear which knocked me off balance. I instinctively put my foot down and..

I always wear a 'bump' hat in lofts - the reason is when you're tippy toeing across the joists you're looking down!!!

I was once working in a loft and caught my head but thought I'd just scratched it - hot day sweating a lot - when I went got down customer yells "Oh my good are you alright"

What I thought was sweat was blood only a tiny cut but a little bit goes a long way!!!
