Hi all,

We've just moved in to a bungalow and the CH and hot water is supplied by a Remeha Avant Plus. All seems OK, but I've noticed that, even with the room thermostat down at the minimum, the boiler fires up several times overnight and runs for perhaps 45 seconds to a minute and then stops.

The reason for this puzzles me. Is it normal behaviour for this model?

Thanks,

Tim.

It could be the boiler's frost protection operating.

Is it fitted in the garage or the loft of your QTH ?

Is your chicken a hen or a cock?

Tony

Hi Tony,

It's in the airing cupboard actually. I did wonder about frost protection, but just presumed it wouldn't be cold enough for that to be triggered.

Baffled by the reference to the chicken?!!

Cheers,

Tim.

The Avanta Plus does not have inbuilt frost protection.

It could be the DHW preheat facility.

Is it a combi (e.g 39C) or system (e.g 24S) boiler?

What external controls do you have (programmer and thermostat) - makes and models?

What sequence of letters/ numbers appear on the display when the boiler comes on in the night?

Thanks for the reply.

There's a few questions there which I can't answer immediately (at work at the moment)

There's a wall-mounted thermostat (no model number visible) and a box which is, from memory, a Siemens RWB7. I haven't seen the display up to yet, but I'll endeavour to look at the next opportunity.

Cheers,

Tim.

Sorry, meant to say that it's a combi.
Then it's probably the DHW preheat coming on. Check the setting of parameter P4 (see user instructions). It's probably set to 2, which is the default. Change it to 1 to turn the preheat off.

You may have to wait a few seconds longer for your hot water.

Thank you very much, most helpful.

I will check tonight. I don't really mind it coming on, I just like to understand things!

Cheers,

Tim.

Are you sure that you dont have a chicken?

Frost Protection!

The Boiler MI is not well written but does seem to have an internal frost protection facility which will:-

2.7.7 Connecting a frost thermostat

The boiler must be installed in a frost-free area to prevent the condensate drain from freezing. However if the temperature of the CH water in the boiler drops too low, the integrated boiler protection device is activated as follows:

- at a water temperature below 7°C: the circulation pump is switched on;

- at a water temperature below 3°C: the boiler is switched on;

- when the water temperature is above 10°C: the boiler is switched off and the circulation pump runs for another 15 minutes.

Yes, I thought that a picture of a chicken would jog your memory!

The appliance does have hot water preheat facility which is set on as standard from the factory. It can be disabled, the instructions to disable are in the user guide. But to be honest these are really quiet boilers, you do get the occasional clonk from the actuator.
