Don't forget the 2 minutes silence fellow Diynotters.

If it wasn't for all those brave heroes we wouldn't be enjoying the freedoms we have today.

Wear your poppy with pride.

Just getting ready myself as I am bugling at our cenotaph today as I do each and every rememberance ceremony. The weather today is fantastic for my Bugle so hopefully the sun will hit it as well as keep the notes crisp and clear with no moisture.

Remembrance Sunday is to remember both world wars on 2nd Sunday in Nov although its really for the date of ending of 1st world war

Armistice day is always on the 11th and is for 1st world war.

My Mum and Dad grew up in Sheerness Isle of Sheppey on the Thames, it was a naval port and was attacked quite a lot.

My Dad was evacuated to Wales, his mum and dad sat him and his brother down one day and said: "would you like to go to Wales to live there while the war is on, his brother said yes so my Dad said yes too. Within a few days they were taken to the train station and ended up in different places in Wales. My Dad was there for almost 2 years.

My Mum lived in Sheerness through the war, she did her O level exams (or equivalent at the time) and during some exams the air raid warning went off and they had to abandon the exam then go back.

My Nans house in Sheeness had bullet marks in it from fighter plane machine guns from battle of Britain.

There should be a new thread: “What did you do in the war Dad?”
