I live in 2bed Maisonette on 1st floor and we have planning approved for Loft conversion (conservation area). We have an unused gas fireplace and i want to remove our portion of chimney breast which is located in the middle of the living room on party wall without touching downstairs neighbours chimney flue. The downstairs landlord have confirmed through email that their’s is open fronted gas fireplace which vents through chimney stack and currently in use. The whole chimney breast in our living room is 1.8mx0.60m
My questions are on how do i find out the correct flue for our fireplace? and how do i determine how much chimney breast should be removed? Is it possible to remove just our part of fireplace in living room without impacting downstairs chimney flue? Can this also be done in loft to remove our part and leave theirs as this will give half an extra space in loft? If above is possible by having structural engineer involved, can the downstairs landlord object to this work not to be done?
Many thanks in advance.
