Hi All,

I've just removed a redundant bedroom door. Above it is the wall plate for the roof trusses, where the house changes shape.

There is a bit of wall sticking out, that I would like to remove, which would change the gap from 34" to 38".

Would it be ok to remove the 4"?

The wall is on the left of the photo.

Cheers, Camerart.

Can't quite get my head around the whole 'support for the roof trusses' thing?

Is there a set of mono-trusses that land on the bit of wall above the door?

Or do they land on the bit of wall to the left of the door?

 Sorry I meant roof rafter not truss.

Approximately above where the photo was taken is the apex of the roof, with the rafters coming down onto the wall plate that runs along the where the top of the door was, then along the wall to the left of the gap. So, above the door would be perhaps 2 or 3 rafter bottoms.

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Cheers, Camerart.

If we are correct in thinking that the wall plate is continuous along the whole of that wall, I would not think that another 4" would make much difference. If you are concerned then you could get a SE to look at it. If the wall to the right of the door is structural a larger wall plate could be inserted behing the existing one in the loft.

The wall plate run continuously the full width of the house.

Good idea to beef up the plate above the gap.
