Remove push fitting

How can I get this fitting off? I've pulled down the collet so hard one of the black clips snapped and it still won't come off. Anything better than a hacksaw to cut it off?
 
I got bored and just hacksaw'd at it until it fell apart. If you know the right way to remove them though. I'm all eyes.
