Remove quarry tiles for new solid wood floor ?!?

Hi we have our heart set on a solid wood floor in our dinning room but can't work out the best way to go about it . . . .

We have 1 inch thick quarry tiles set on about another inch of sand/cement mix. Underneath this is some very rough looking concrete flooring.

Removing the quarry tiles and sand/cement is going to drop the level by about two inches which is surely going to be to low to bring the solid wood floor level with the two adjoining rooms.

I've looked at leveling compound but seems very expensive for a 27sm room at that thickness.

Any suggestions ?

The first thing you need to ask yourself is why do you want a solid floor?

The second thing you need to consider is wether there is a DPM underneath the concrete floor? (unlikely)

If there is no DPM, you will need to uplift everything, level the floor, install a damp course of some description, and THEN you can look at what options there are for installing a product for levelling.

Once that is sorted, the method that you fit the Solid floor will be dictated by the option taken for levelling, secret nailing into a ply levelled floor or fully gluing onto a DPM and screeded floor.

DO NOT FLOAT A SOLID FLOOR.

An engineered floating floor will be a more cost effective,lmore stable, less time consuming option and there may be a little less cost in preparing the subfloor.
