onnect a new shower bar. All is fine with the shower bar but this pipe is too long and forcing the shower bar away from the wall.

I want to get the coupler off and connect the elbow to the copper pipe to shorten it. Any advice on how best to do this? Tia

Remove everything after elbow, fit an appropriate length of copper pipe, support them and then fit thermostatic bar.
I use bar valve fitting brackets which make replacement of the bar a 5 minute job (they do go wrong).

Ty for the swift response. So I am not able just to remove coupler and connect the other fittings back together?

The shower valve needs to be connected to rigid pipework that can support it's weight ,or you fit a bar valve fixing kit.

I can't fit a bar fixing kit as it's on a shower.panel. I was going to clip the pipes up for support once removing the coupler. Will this work?

Don't see why you can't use a fixing kit ?
Why couldn't you fit a piece of timber ,with adhesive, to the back of the panel ,and then screw the fixing to it through the panel ?

It's a cavity wall inside of a cupboard containing the water tank so not sure there is room

Well I shall certainly try that. Thanks. I am surprised my plumber friend hasn't recommended it.

That was left by a friend who says he's a plumber?

Sorry but if he left you with that he aint no plumber
I had similar. Customer of ours when working on the boiler - I flooded out the kitchen cupboard after draining the boiler in the middle part of 1.5 bowl to be told he left if without a seal Andy the kitchen tap was just free roaming - similar to above but worse.

I'm going to attempt to remove the yellow coupler to shorten the pipe and then add a baton into the cupboard which has a 5cm cavity wall) with a hole big enough for the isolators to fit and then attempt to secure the pipes in that. Wish me luck...

That sounds crap. Honestly watch this video. Fit your isolators to the drops and you can then connect your pushfit pipework further down. You'll need a length of copper pipe and a bender if you don't want to solder.
