remove stairwell wallH

Hi,
we are thinking of altering the look of our house with a new modern steel staircase.

in order for it to look right we would need to remove the wall above the staircase so we have an open height.

the stairwell has an outside wall to it but no other wall besides the top.

would this be a building regs compliance in order to remove it?

just want some ideas before i go speaking to any builders
