Removed gas fire. Can I install mains socket inside.

A gas safe perso removed a gas fire and capped it off.

is it possible for me to get a electrician to install a mains socket inside the fire place? Without any safety issues

Long as you make sure the flue is capped off no problem.

So how do I know it’s capped off? I presume given it was a working gas fire before I removed it won’t be capped?
