Grip each side of the plastic bit in the centre and pull, if it doesn't come then its possible the lamp holder has gone a bit manky and you might be wise to switch the mcb off and try and and hold agaisnt teh lamp holder
 
Thanks for the quick reply. Do I pull to the left, right, down???

Edit: Have tried all 3 ways but no joy

Sometimes a bit of brute force is needed to get these lamps out of the socket

Some leverage from a screwdriver may be necessary
