I have just moved into a house and in the living room is an old gas fire. Its freezing due to the air coming in through the flue and the fire is half off the wall, no way I would turn it on.

I just want to move it, the gas pipe comes from the floor. The top has a flat head screw and a micropipe comes out st right angles with a compression fitting. There are no volves.

can I just turn off the gas and remove the micropipe and cap the supply pipe?

Many thanks
