If you do a search there are several answers to your question on the forums.
As a general rule the answer is Yes.

The thing you need to be very careful of if you have thermostatic rad valves is that even with them switched off they will sometimes open if the room temperature drops too low, resulting in water escaping.

A couple of brass caps designed for the job are availble from plumbers merchants to cap off the valves. Make sure there is a rubber washer fitted....

I can speak from experience as this happened twice to me (you think I would have learnt the 1st time). I always use the brass caps now with plenty of PTFE tape to make a good fit.

Are these blanking caps a standard size, or are they specific for lockshields/TRVs ?

I've struggled to find them in the past - does anyone have a suitable weblink ?

Cheers.

I always remove the old fittings from the rad as they could be specific to the valve and then blank these. In my experiance theres two maybe 3 different size valve fittings but only one inlet size on a rad 3/4bsp I think.

Do this a couple of times and you've always got a set of cheap blanks in your tool bag.

Thanks for that, but I was thinking of a decorating scenario, where you want to refit the same rad and not have to remove the tails ?
