removing adhesive

does anyone have any good tips for removing adhesive from slate tiles?

i have bought some second hand tiles as they are a perfect match for what i already have but don't want to go charging at them and damage them

Leave in hot soapy water for 24hrs then the adhesive should come off with a butter knife.
