I have 25 sqm of ceramic tiles to lift in preparation for laying new ones. What is the best way to do this with minimum damage to the underlying concrete? Is there a reasonbly priced power tool that would make it easier?

Use an SDS+ drill with roto stop and a tile removing bit which looks like a large bolster bent at an angle. You could buy one of the cheap makes or hire one for the weekend, something around the 4Kg mark will have enough weight behind it.

Thanks Jason.

A weekend hire cost looks less than 10% of the cost of buying, but would one of these things keep coming in handy? I'm moving a kitchen into a different room. Could it used for other things I'm going to need to do like cutting holes for power sockets, channels for cables, holes for waste pipes etc?

You can get cheap ones from about £35.00, if it lasts after the job its a bonus. A decent one will set you back around £300, I've got the bosch Multihammer which will do all the other things you mention.
